5 Day Garden Route Tour   Vehicles only

DAY 1

CAPE TOWN – CAPE AGULHAS

Tour departs Cape Town along the N2. At the bottom of Sir Lowry’s Pass we follow the False Bay coastline instead. The twisty Clarence Drive is one of South Africa’s more popular coastal roads. We stop at the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens for a leg stretch by walking up to the waterfall at the top of the gardens. Next stop is Hermanus (Southern Right Whale Capital of South Africa). After some lunch with wine tasting and whale viewing we make our way to Cape Agulhas (Southern most tip of Africa), passing through the rolling wheat fields and the small quiet villages of Elim, Napier and Bredasdorp. (Approx 290km).

DAY 2

CAPE AGULHAS - OUDTSHOORN

We start the day by going to the lighthouse and to the top of it also. We depart the southern most tip of Africa and head inland for Swellendam. Shortly after leaving the 3rd oldest town in SA, we turn off the N2 and go in a northerly direction through Suurbraak and over the Tradouws Pass. Lunch stop is at the Country Pumpkin. After a light meal we continue on the R62 passing through Ladismith and Calitzdorp before arriving in Oudtshoorn. (Approx 310km).

DAY 3

OUDTSHOORN – MOSSEL BAY

Our day starts by visiting an Ostrich farm, the main reason for Oudtshoorn being in existence today. Afterwards we travel to the Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch. After a light lunch we head south towards Mossel Bay. We visit the Diaz Museum complex and Post Office Tree. (Approx 170km).

DAY 4

MOSSEL BAY - KNYSNA

We follow the Indian Ocean coastline, passing George along the way. We stop at Victoria Bay for a swim before continuing on for Knysna. Along the way we go through South Africa’s version of the ‘lakes district’ and through the holiday towns of Wilderness and Sedgefield. Upon arriving in Knysna we check into our accommodation, then head for the waterfront, for a cruise on the lagoon followed by dinner at one of the local restaurants. (Approx 120km).

DAY 5

KNYSNA – PORT ELIZABETH

We depart Knysna after an early breakfast, making our way to the Craggs. There are a number of activities to do here – Monkeyland, Birds of Eden or the Elephant Sanctuary. We continue on the N2 to Plettenberg Bay stopping at the Old Nick for a light lunch. The route carries on following the N2 towards Port Elizabeth, with stops along the way at Storms River and Jeffreys Bay. Once in Port Elizabeth, a short city tour is done to orientate yourselves before going to your hotel. (Approx 300km).
