Classic Garden Route Tour

DAY 1

Cape Town - Cape Agulhas

The Classic Garden Route Tour departs Cape Town along the N2. At the bottom of Sir Lowry’s Pass we follow the False Bay coastline. The twisty Clarence Drive is one of South Africa’s more popular coastal roads. We stop at the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens for a leg stretch and a walk up to the waterfall at the top of the gardens. Next stop is Hermanus (Southern Right Whale Capital of South Africa). After some lunch with wine tasting and whale viewing we make our way to Cape Agulhas (Southern most tip of Africa), passing through the rolling wheat fields and the small quiet villages of Elim, Napier and Bredasdorp. (Approx 290km).

DAY 2

Cape Agulhas - Oudtshoorn

We start the day by going to the lighthouse and walking to the top of it. We depart the southern most tip of Africa and head inland for Swellendam passing through Bredasdorp (optional visit to the Shipwreck Museum) and Malgas for the last man operated pont in South Africa. We turn off the N2, through Suurbraak and over the Tradouws Pass. Lunch stop is at Mike Clarkes 'Clarke of the Karoo' for the best lamb chops around. After a lunch we continue on the R62 passing through Ladismith and Calitzdorp before arriving in Oudtshoorn. Here we visit an ostrich farm for a tour before checking in at our accommodation. (Approx 330km).

DAY 3

Oudtshoorn - Wilderness

Our day starts by visiting the Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch (optional cheetah encounter and crocodile cage diving). We leave Oudtshoorn and head due south towards Mossel Bay over the Robinson Pass where we have lunch. We visit the Diaz Museum complex with the Post Office Tree and Bats Cave and then make our way to Wilderness passing the towns of George and Victoria Bay. We check into our accommodation high up on the mountain side with superb views over the town and beach. (Approx 170km)

DAY 4

Wilderness - Plettenberg Bay

First on the list for the day is the Map of Africa. With this done we make our way along the N2 through the town of Sedgefield towards Knysna. Here we do the Featherbed Nature Reserve trip (boat trip, with a walk in the western head followed by lunch). In the afternoon there is some time for shopping before heading off to our next destination with one last stop of the day at the Garden of Eden (Indigenous Forest Walk). At Plettenberg Bay we check into our accommodation. Evening spent at leisure. (Approx 90km)

DAY 5

Plettenberg Bay

Today there are lots of activities lined up. First up is the boat based whale trip (weather dependent), followed by Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. Return to Plettenberg Bay where the remaining part of the afternoon is spent at leisure. (Approx 60km)

DAY 6

Plettenberg Bay - Port Elizabeth

After a relaxing breakfast, we depart  Plettenberg Bay for our final destination. We stop at the Tsitsikamma Forest area for a zipline tour either through the treetops or a river gorge before making our way to the Storms River Mouth for lunch and a walk.
