DAY 1
Cape Town - Oudtshoorn
The activity filled Garden Route blitz departs from Cape Town in a northeasterly direction along the N1. We pass the winelands of the Cape before coming to our first mountain pass of the tour. Instead of going through the Huguenot Tunnel, we go over the top of the Du Toits Kloof Pass. At Worcester we leave the N1 behind and start on the R60. The first town we come to is Robertson, which is famous for many things - breeding of race horses, wine and brandy to name a few. Our first stop of the day is at the next town – Ashton, at the wine co-op for a taste of the wines of the area and you can also buy the wines here at cellar prices. This road then becomes the R62 (South Africa’s longest wine route) and we follow it all the way to Oudtshoorn, passing through many small towns, past plenty of vineyards and over a mountain pass or two along the way. We stop for lunch at one of the many roadside picnic spots along the route. Upon arriving in Oudtshoorn (the Ostrich capital of the World) we visit an Ostrich farm before retiring to our guest house. (Approx 430km).
DAY 2
Oudtshoorn - Plettenberg Bay
Our early day starts by visiting the Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch (here you can touch a cheetah and do Crocodile Cage Diving). Afterwards we head in a southerly direction for the coast over the Outeniqua Pass, through George, passing South Africa’s version of the ‘lakes district’ and through the holiday towns of Wilderness, Sedgefield and Knysna. We drive up to the eastern Head for a view over the town. Our last stop of the day is the Knysna Elephant Park for a tour and then to Plettenberg Bay, where we check into our accommodation and relax before heading off to dinner at one of the local restaurants. (Approx 160km).
An alternate route is just before the Outeniqua Pass, we turn left and take the back roads to Plettenberg Bay passing 'Die Vlug' and over the Prince Alfred's Pass. This is a totally different and very scenic route to take and involves some gravel roads but well worth it. We then come down into Plettenberg Bay from the east. approx 180km). (This alternate route not suitable for motorbike tour).
DAY 3
Plettenberg Bay - Port Elizabeth
Weather dependent there is the optional boat based whale trip or we depart Plettenberg Bay for the Craggs. Here there are various optional activities: Monkeyland, Birds of Eden or Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Sanctuary. We then leave the Craggs and head for Port Elizabeth. Once in the city, a short city tour is done to orientate yourselves before going to your hotel. (Approx 280km).
